Wellesley Swimming & Diving Sweeps NEWMAC Weekly Awards

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Following a 195-98 dual meet victory over Simmons College on Saturday, Wellesley College swimming & diving has swept the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) weekly awards for the week ending November 15.

First year Karen Wang (Holmdel, N.J.) has earned Women's Swimmer of the Week, while sophomore Maura Sticco-Ivins (Framingham, Mass.) has been named Diver of the Week for the second time this year. In addition, the Blue's 200-Medley Relay team of senior Dorothy Ren (San Jose, Calif.), senior Charlotte Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio), first year Cathy Ye (Vancouver, B.C.) and first year Cathy Chen (Parsippany, N.J.) have earned Relay Team of the Week Honors. 

NEWMAC Women's Swimmer of the Week

Karen Wang, Wellesley (Freshman • Holmdel, N.J.)

First year Karen Wang won the 400-yard individual medley with a pool-record time of 4:40.42 as part of the Blue's 195-98 victory over Simmons on Saturday. The time set a new pool record at Simmons, besting the previous mark by over 13 seconds. Wang also won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:12.61.

NEWMAC Women's Diver of the Week

Maura Sticco-Ivins, Wellesley (Sophomore • Framingham, Mass.)

Maura Sticco-Ivins won both the 1 and 3-meter diving events as part of Wellesley's 198-98 dual meet victory over Simmons on Saturday afternoon. The sophomore set pool records in both events, winning the 1-meter with a score of 294.07 and the 3-meter with a mark of 319.50.

NEWMAC Women's Relay Team of the Week

Dorothy Ren (Senior • San Jose, Calif.), Charlotte Harris (Senior • Cincinnati, Ohio), Cathy Ye (First Year • Vancouver, B.C.) and Cathy Chen (First Year • Parsippany, N.J.), Wellesley

Dorothy Ren, Charlotte Harris, Cathy Ye and Cathy Chen finished first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:50.90 in Wellesley's 195-98 victory over Simmons. This is the second-consecutive week a Wellesley relay has earned the award, following the 200-Free Relay team's recognition on November 8. Both Harris and Chen earned conference weekly honors as part of the 200-Free Relay team last week. 

Wellesley swimming & diving continues the season on Saturday, November 21, at the Trinity College (Conn.) quad meet. The Blue will battle the host Bantams as well as Clark University and Hamilton College beginning at 1:00 PM.
