800 Free Relay Team Downs School Record on Opening Night of NEWMACs

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving's 800 Free Relay team set a new school record as the Blue opened competition at the 2016 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday evening at MIT's Zesiger Center pool.

Senior Charlotte Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio), first year Karen Wang (Holmdel, N.J.) and seniors Dorothy Ren (San Jose, Calif.) and Ieva Galinyte (Irvine, Calif.) combined for a school record time of 7:41.68 to take third place in the only event on day one. The Blue trailed only host MIT (7:37.07) and second place Springfield College (7:38.46) in the 800 Free Relay.

Harris, Ren and Galinyte were also members of the previous school recording holding 800 Free Relay team that recorded a time of 7:44.33 in 2014.

Action continues tomorrow, February 19, at the NEWMAC Championships with preliminaries at 10:00 AM and Finals at 6:30 PM. Tomorrow's schedule includes the 200 Free Relay, 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, 3-Meter Diving and the 400 Medley Relay. For more, check out the links below:
