Hussein Yassine Named Assistant Swimming Coach at Wellesley

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College Swimming & Diving Head Coach Bonnie Dix has named Hussein Yassine as the Blue's Assistant Swimming Coach and Assistant Aquatic Director for the 2016-17 season.

"I am honored to be joining the Wellesley Swimming and Diving program," said Yassine. "I am grateful for the opportunity to bring my passion for swimming to the collegiate level, and excited to give all that I have to uphold the team's history of excellence and success."

Yassine swam at the national level for the Wichita Swim Club, where he was a central zone champion and a top-eight finisher at the regional and state level. He went on to become the Maize South High School (MSHS) Head Coach for both the boys and girls swim teams from 2009-2014. During his time as head coach, the MSHS Eagles boys' team won five-consecutive league titles before going on to place in the top-eight at the state meet. Yassine also led the MSHS Mavericks girls team to the league title in four of his five years, while also earning top eight finishes at states. Yassine has coached multiple Kansas state record holders and High School All-Americans.

"I am very excited about Hussein's passion for the sport and impressive coaching experience," said rising junior Lindsey Wu. "Past swimmers [he has worked with] rave about his ambitious vision coupled with his training regiment."

Yassine's former athletes have gone on to swim at the collegiate level at schools such as the University of North Carolina, Cleveland State, South Dakota State, the University of Minnesota and Missouri State University, and have also qualified for Olympic trials. In addition to coaching high school swimming, he has also coached USA Age Group swimmers at North Suburban YMCA in Woburn, Mass.

"I am very excited to welcome Hussein," said Dix. "His passion for swimming, and excitement for coaching was clear from the first time we spoke. He has a proven record of developing swimmers to achieve at the highest levels."
