Blue Swimming & Diving Opens Weekend at MIT Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving opened the three-day MIT Winter Invitational on Friday evening, competing in the 800 Freestyle Relay, 1-Meter Diving, and 1650 Free at MIT's Zesiger Center Pool.

The Blue opened the evening with a tenth place finish in the 800 Free Relay behind a time of 7:59.59 from sophomore Danielle Peterson (Livingston, N.J.), juniors Sunny Chiang (Troy, Mich.) and Jessie Feng (Princeton, N.J.), and first year Emily Yeager (Pittsfield, Mass.).

Senior Maura Sticco-Ivins (Framingham, Mass.) finished in second place in diving with a mark of 302.05. Wellesley had two of the top-ten in the field of 20 thanks to a score of 253.45 from first year Noelle Bergere (Madison, Conn.). Junior Ingrid Henderson (Berkeley, Calif.) added a mark of 194.50 to take 13th. 

Sophomore Kayleigh Svensson (Palo Alto, Calif.) posted the top-time for the Blue in the 1650 Free, finishing the distance test in 19:27.03. First year Elizabeth Nicholson (Hightstown, N.J.) added a time of 21:40.22 in the 1650 Free to finish 23rd for the Blue. 

Action continues tomorrow at MIT with: 3-Meter Diving, the 200 Free Relay, 200 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, 400 IM, 50 Free, and the 400 Medley Relay (Finals Only). Preliminary competition begins at 10:00 AM, with finals slated for 6:00 PM. Diving will commence at 12:45 PM.
