Wellesley's May, 400 Medley Relay Sweep NEWMAC Weekly Swimming Awards

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College junior Hannah May (Cincinnati, Ohio) has been named the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Swimmer of the Week for the week ending January 19, 2019. In addition, May and teammates Jessica Wegner (Taipei, Taiwan), Danielle Peterson (Livingston, N.J.), and Maggie Haley (Shady Side, Md.) have been named the NEWMAC Women's Swimming Relay of the Week for their performance in the 400 Medley Relay.

NEWMAC Women's Swimmer of the Week - Hannah May, Wellesley (Jr. – Cincinnati, Ohio)

May was the individual winner in the 50, 100 and 200 Free and finished second in the 100 Backstroke to lead the Blue to victory at the two-day Sisters Invitational, hosted by Mount Holyoke. May finished with a time of 25.27 in the 50 Free on Saturday. She followed that with winning times of 54.16 in the 100 Free and 1:57.65 in the 200 Free on Sunday and a runner-up time of 1:01.98 in the 100 Back, just tenths of a second behind teammate Shawyuan Hsu's winning time of 1:01.91.

May was also part of Wellesley wins in the 800 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay, and the 400 Medley Relay at the meet. The honor is the second of May's career and the third this season for the Blue. 

NEWMAC Women's Relay of the Week - 400 Medley Relay, Wellesley (May, Wegner, Peterson, Haley)

May, Wegner, Peterson and Haley closed out the opening session of the MHC Sisters Invitational with a winning time of 4:05.85 in the 400 Medley Relay. The Blue's time was the fastest 400 Medley Relay in the NEWMAC on the week. Wellesley defeated the host Lyons, as well as NEWMAC rival Smith, Merrimack and Western New England to win the title.

Wellesley swimming & diving will return to the pool for a tri-dual with Brandeis and host Merrimack on Saturday, January 25, at 1:00 PM at the Andover YMCA.
