Swimming & Diving Earns Split in Tri-Meet at Springfield College

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Wellesley College swimming & diving split a pair of New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) dual meets with Springfield College and Babson on Sunday afternoon.

The Blue defeated Babson 178-91, and fell to Springfield 164-124. The Pride swept the day with a 186.5-100.5 victory over Babson. In the men's portion of the dual meet, Springfield downed Babson 163-136.

First year Cecilia Cai (Palo Alto, Calif.) continued her breakout season with a pair of wins for the Blue. Cai set a personal record, swimming a 2:11.78 to win her first event of the day in the 200 yard butterfly. Her second victory came in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:12.97 and was two second faster than the second place finisher.

Sophomore McKaela Glanville (Menlo Park, Calif.) placed first in the 200 yard IM event with a time of 2:14.14, a personal best. Glanville finished just ahead of teammate Jessica Wegner (Taipei, Taiwan) who swam a 2:16.07 to capture second place.

Glanville teamed up with Cai, Marisa Papagelis (Westborough, Mass.), and Ariana Mitsuoka (Centennial, Co.) to win the 400 yard freestyle relay. The squad finished at 3:43.95, almost nine seconds quicker than Babson who placed second in the event. 

Wegner added an individual victory for Wellesley in the 100 yard butterfly. The senior swam a 58.73 and was the only participant to finish under a minute. Wegner also competed in the 200 yard medley relay with Mellany Smith (West Orange, N.J.), Maya Hart (Menlo Park, Calif.), and Mitsuoka who placed second at 1:52.86. 

Elizabeth Park (Dix Hills, N.Y.) swam a 1:10.58 in the 100 yard breaststroke to earn second place. Sophomore Mona Li (Cary, N.C.) earned silver in the 50 yard freestyle at 26.21 and Glanville finished just shy of a second win in the 100 yard freestyle with a runner-up swim of 55.16.
