Blue Swimming and Dive Fifth at NEWMAC Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. - Wellesley College saw many strong performances on Sunday to finish fifth overall in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships at WPI.

MIT won the team competition with 1441 points. Wheaton took second with 921.5 points, followed by Springfield (795.5), Coast Guard (593.5), and then the Blue (524.4), who finished ahead of WPI (457.5), Babson (332), Mount Holyoke (275), Smith (245.5)m and Clark (197). 

First year Kavita Sekhon took home the silver in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a 2:21.56, only .01 off her program record. Classmate Lara Dashti (Kuwait) had a PR of her own with a 2:23.04 to finish fifth in the A finals.

First year Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.) placed seventh in the 200 Yard Backstroke A Finals with a personal best time of 2:07.46. Sophomore Cecilia Cai (Palo Alto, Calif.) captured seventh in the  200 Yard Butterfly A Finals with a season best time of 2:07.80. 

Junior Ariana Mitsuoka (Centennial, Colo.) hit a season best mark of 52.95 good for eighth place in the 100 Yard Freestyle A finals. First year Elsa Marsden (Vienna, Va.) took tenth in 1-meter diving with a score of 343.85. 

Wellesley closed out their competition with a sixth place finish the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay A Finals with a team of first year Aubrey Cantrell (Palo Alto, Calif.), Cai, junior McKaela Glanville (Menlo Park, Calif.), and Mitsuoka.

The Blue will await national results to see if they have qualifiers for the NCAA Division III National Championships which take place from March 15-18 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.
