Wellesley Swimming & Diving Beats Smith, Falls to Springfield on Saturday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving split with Springfield and Smith at Springfield's Art Linkletter Natatorium on Saturday. The Blue earned a 198-94 victory over Smith and fell 159-139 to Springfield.

Sophomore Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.) earned gold in the 100 Breaststroke and 200 Breastroke events, leading the pack with a times of 1:05.09 and 2:24.05. Classmate Lara Dashti (Kuwait) and senior Alice Johnson (Seattle, Wash.) went 3-4 in the 100 Breastroke and 200 Breastroke with respective times of 1:08.56 and 1:13.79 in the 100 and 2:27.68 and 2:36.66 in the 200.

Sekhon won a third event with a winning time of 1:00.17 in the 100 Fly. Senior McKaela Glanville (Menlo Park, Calif.) was second with a time of 1:00.31.

Sophomore Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.) won the 100 Back event with a winning time of 1:00.13. Senior Mira Tang (Mercer Island, Wash.) was the runner-up with a time of 1:01.27. Tang was second with a time of 2:13.07 in the 200 Back.

Junior Cecilia Cai (Palo Alto, Calif.) took the top spot with a time of 2:11.67 in the 200 Fly. Cai was followed narrowly by Glanville, who earned second with a time of 2:15.46.

First year Jaya Magavi (West Hartford, Conn.) grabbed second in 1-Meter-Diving with a score of 242.75 that was only 1.2 points behind Smith's Katherine Welsh (St. Paul, Minn.). Magavi later claimed third on the 3-Meter board with a score of 251.50.

Wellesley's 200 Medley Relay team of Liu, Sekhon, Aubrey Cantrell (Palo Alto, Calif.) and senior Ariana Mitsuoka (Centennial, Colo.) finished second to Springfield with a time of 1:48.30.

Mitsuoka was the runner-up in the 50 Free with a time of 25.24 that was only .05 off of her season best mark. Mitsuoka later finished second in the 100 Free with a time of 55.51.

Dashti narrowly took second by less than .2 of a second with a season-best time of 2:14.01 in the 200 IM.

Cantrell claimed third in the 200 Free with a time of 2:02.04. 

The Blue's 400 Free Relay of Cai, Glanville, Tang and Mitsuoka finished the day by taking second with a time of 3:40.56.
