Wellesley Tennis Falls to #17 Redlands

Redlands opened with a 2-1 lead after doubles, with the Blue grabbing a win from the newly minted third doubles team of Meghan Stubblebine (Cumming, GA) and Whitney Reid (Bensalem, PA). The 8-3 victory marked the first career doubles victory for Reid, who joined the team this semester.

Wellesley went down 4-1 in singles after losses at three and four. The Blue then got one back at number two where Jacqueline Shen (Calgary, AB) posted a come-from-behind win, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, over the #45 player in the country, Rachael Miller. Wellesley then cut the lead to 4-3 as Reid won her first singles match of the season, 6-4, 6-2, at number six.

Needing to win the final two matches of the day, the Blue's Marie Watanabe (Houston, TX) dropped a heartbreaker to nationally-ranked Paige Sumida. Watanabe dropped the first set 6-3, but rebounded in the second, 6-4. In the deciding third set, she took a 4-3 lead, but couldn't hold on and dropped the set, 6-4.

Wellesley's Stubblebine was also a winner for the Blue, as her hard-fought 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, victory at number five set the final team score to 5-4.

The Blue are back in action on Thursday at 3:00pm (PST) against Pomona-Pitzer.
