Blue Tennis Falls To Three-Time Defending NCAA Champion Williams

The Wellesley College tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Williams College on Sunday afternoon. The Ephs, who have won the last three NCAA Championships, open the season at 1-0, while Wellesley falls to 2-1.

Williams took all three doubles matches, but the Blue's number one pair of Jacqueline Shen and Diana Granger hung tough with the Ephs' Kristin Alotta and Nicole Reich. Shen and Granger stayed close in the match, before eventually falling 8-5. In the other doubles matches, Taylor French and Nancy Worley defeated Wellesley's Erica Choo and Kendall Tada, 8-2, while Caroline Capute and Lindsay Thygesen upended Nathalie Herman and Morgan Johnstonbaugh at three.

In singles, the tighest match came in the second flight where Erica Choo hung tough with William's Nancy Worley, before falling, 6-3, 6-3. At one, Shen fell to Alotta, 6-1, 6-1, while at three Herman fell to Reich, 6-2, 6-1. Finishing out the day, Tada lost 6-0, 6-0, to Capute, Granger fell 6-0, 6-2 to Kathleen Elkins, and Johnstonbaugh was defeated 6-0, 6-1, by Kara Shoemaker.

Wellesley returns to the courts on Tuesday at 4:30pm, playing at Wheaton College in a re-match of last year's NEWMAC Championship.
