Wellesley Tennis Opens Play at NEWITT

AMHERST, Mass. -- The Wellesley College tennis team had a successful day one at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) on Friday. Wellesley entered three teams into the two-day tournament, with two Blue pairs advancing in the winner's bracket.

Wellesley's top pair was Jacqueline Shen and Diana Granger, followed by Kendall Tada and Erica Choo, and Morgan Johnstonbaugh and Raji Nagalla.  Each team played one doubles match against their opponents and then two singles matches.  The pair that took two out of three matches advanced to the next round.

Shen and Granger had a tough draw in the first round of the Gail Smith "A" flight, as they competed against the top pair from Williams and fell 3-0.

In the Chris Davis "B" flight, Tada and Choo paired up for a 3-0 victory over the Conn College's third team.  Johnstonbaugh and Nagalla also advanced to the second round, notching a win over the #2 pair from Salve Regina.

Action continues tomorrow beginning at 9:00am.
