Tennis Opens Season with Dominant Win over Emerson

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College tennis team opened the 2011-12 season with a commanding 9-0 sweep over Emerson College on Saturday afternoon in Wellesley.

The Blue dropped just six games the entire afternoon.

In a 3-0 sweep of doubles, the number two and number three tandems did not allow a game against them, as each won 8-0. At two, sophomore Diana Granger and first-year Emily Bary defeated Natalie Nicholas and Alicia Pellegrin, while at three, first-years Melissa Clark and Joyce Chen beat Alanna Grady and Gina Varamo.  

At one doubles, senior Marie Watanabe and first-year  Sojung Lee defeated Savannah Mosser and Lacey Russell, 8-4.

In singles play, Clark worked a 6-0, 6-0 win over Russell at one, while Watanabe was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Mosser at two. At three, Choo defeated Pellegrin, 6-0, 6-0, and at four, Granger was a 6-1, 6-0, winner over Nichols.

Rounding out singles play, Lee went 6-0, 6-0 against Varamo at five and Tada was a 6-0, 6-0 winner against Winfield at six.

The Blue are back in action a week from today, opening NEWMAC play at Springfield at 1:00pm.
