Blue Tennis Cruises Past Mount Holyoke

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College tennis team moved to 3-0 on the season with a 9-0 victory over New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival, Mount Holyoke, on Saturday afternoon. The Blue now stand at 2-0 in conference play, while the Lyons drop to 0-2 in the NEWMAC with a 1-3 overall record.

Once again, Wellesley opened doubles play with a 3-0 sweep. At one, Marie Watanabe and Sojung Lee handled Nahree Han and Ann Elizabeth Konkel, crusing to the 8-0 win. At two, Emily Bary and Diana Granger were 8-5 winners over Sarah Anischik and Maya Sayarath, while in the third spot, Joyce Chen and Erica Choo paired up for an 8-3 win over Heather Richardson and Kesley Brower.

In singles play, the Blue swept all flights to complete the 9-0 victory. At one, Watanabe defeated Han, 6-1, 6-3, while at two Clark trounced Sayareth, 6-0, 6-0. In the third flight, Lee defeated Anischik, 6-0, 6-3, while Chen was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Malik at four. Rounding out singles play, Morgan Johnstonbaugh was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Konkel at five, while at six, Lauren Wilbur picked up her first collegiate victory, a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Sarah Moore.

Wellesley continues NEWMAC play on Saturday, hosting Clark University in a 1:00pm showdown. The match is part of Homecoming and Family and Friends Weekend for the Blue.
