Blue Tennis Faces Tough Competition at ITA Regional Championships

LEWISTON, Maine -- The Wellesley College tennis team completed a tough showing at the ITA Regional Championships on Friday. The Blue saw four singles players and two doubles teams in action at the event, hosted by Bates College.

In doubles play, both of Wellesley's entries were matched up against top teams in the region. Blue senior Marie Watanabe and first-year Sojung Lee dropped a 9-7 heartbreaker to the #2 seeds, Jordan Brewer and Laura Danzig of Amherst. Sophomore Diana Granger and first-year Emily Bary also fell in a tight 9-7 match, to Samantha Gann and Janice Lam of Tufts.

In singles, Wantanabe dropped a tough 7-6, 6-4 decision to Rebecca Curran of Williams, while #7 seed Danzig of Amherst defeated Wellesley's Lee. Sophomore Erica Choo and first-year Melissa Clark were also faced with a tough first-round draw, as Choo fell to Middlebury's Leah Kepping and Clark lost to Brandeis' Allyson Bernstein.

The Blue are back in action on Tuesday, traveling to MIT for a key NEWMAC match-up beginning at 4:00pm.
