Wellesley Tennis Defeats Emerson, 7-2

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Wellesley College tennis team ran its season record to 6-2, posting a 7-2 victory over Emerson College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action. The win also improves Wellesley's NEWMAC mark to 5-1, while the Lions dip to 2-7 overall, 2-5 in league play.

Wellesley jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play, and  then won five out of six singles matches to earn the 7-2 win. Double winners for Wellesley were senior Kendall Tada, and first-years Dasha Kostikina and Caroline Dickensheets.

In doubles play, the Blue got points in the second and third matches, while Emerson got on the board at number one. At one, the Lions got a point from Lacy Russell and Savannah Mosser, who topped Wellesley's Andjela Stojkovic and Lina Ye, 8-4.

The Blue stormed back at two and three, where #2's Samantha Stone and Tada topped  Natalie Nicholas and Jana Winfield, 8-4, and #3's Kostikina and Dickensheets blanked Madeline Bilis and Macy Day, 8-0.

In singles, Wellesley's Carina Chen topped Russell at one, 6-4, 6-0, while Emerson's Mosser was a 7-5, 6-1 winner over Stojkovic. At three, Wellesley's Ye was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Winfield, while the Blue's Tada topped Nicholas, 6-4, 6-4, at four. Wrapping up singles play, Kostikina topped Bilis 6-0, 6-2, at five, while Dickensheets was a 6-0, 6-0, winner over Day at six.

Wellesley tennis is back in action on Saturday, October 12th, heading to Springfield College. The Blue will battle the Pride in their NEWMAC regular season finale at 1:00pm. Emerson next plays at Suffolk, October 18th  at 6:00pm.
