Wis.-Whitewater Trips Up No. 24 Blue Tennis in Florida Finale

WELLESLEY, Mass. — No. 27 Wisconsin-Whitewater earned a 6-3 victory over No. 24 Wellesley College tennis on Wednesday morning at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando, FL. The Warhawks took two of three doubles match ups and four of the six singles matches to improve to 14-0 on the season. Wellesley drops to 9-4 overall.

Wellesley's top doubles pairing of Sojung Lee and Carina Chen earned an 8-4 victory over Whitewater's Megan Humphreys and Jilliam Wallace. However, the Warhawks bounced back to earn an 8-4 victory of their own at number two doubles, as Bridgid McGuire and Alexandra Talyansky defeated Emily Olson and Caroline Hsu. Whitewater also won the third doubles matchup thanks to an 8-2 victory by Rachel Siemon and Ashley Miller over Dasha Kostikina and Samantha Stone.  

Despite the loss in doubles, Humphreys got the win over Lee at the number one singles matchup, earning a 6-4, 6-2 victory. It took McGuire a tie-breaking third set to defeat Chen at number two. Despite McGuire taking a 6-0 victory in the opening set, Chen bounced back to tie the match with a 6-3 victory in set two before McGuire held on for a 10-7 victory in the tiebreaker.

Wellesley got its final two victories of the match at number three and number four singles. Stone defeated Talyansky (6-3, 6-4) in the number three matchup, while Olson edged Wallace 7-5 in a close first set before taking the victory with a 6-0 win in the final set. 

Whitewater also earned victories at the five and six singles match-ups. Amanda Dick defeated Dasha Kostikina (6-2, 5-7 (10-5)) at five, while Rachel Siemon topped Caroline Dickensheets (6-1, 6-0) at six.

Blue tennis ends its spring training trip to Florida with a win and a loss and will return home to Wellesley to host Bates in their next match as part of the 4th Annual Nor'easter Bowl on Thursday, April 2 at 5:00 PM.
