Blue Tennis Sweeps Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. – Wellesley College tennis cruised to a 9-0 victory over Wheaton College on Tuesday afternoon, as the Blue moved to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. The host Lyons drop to 3-3 (2-2 NEWMAC).

Emily Olson (La Jolla, Calif.) and Justine Huang (Coto de Caza, Calif.) opened the day by defeating Izzy Gorham and Caroline DiNicola-Fawley in first doubles, 8-1. Andjela Stojkovic (Victoria, British Columbia) and Carina Chen (Hong Kong) kept the Blue rolling in the second doubles match, defeating Stassy Furber and Caroline Stanclift, 8-0; before Blue first years Tristan Lorich (New York, N.Y.) and Rosanne Hu (Troy, Texas) completed doubles play with an 8-0 victory.

Wellesley junior Caroline Dickensheets (Alpharetta, GA) won the #6 Singles match (6-2, 6-0) before Wellesley first-years Hu (6-3, 6-3), So Jin Ki (Seoul, South Korea) (6-1, 6-2), and Lorich (6-1, 6-1) won the next three matches at #5, #4 and #3 Singles.

Olson and Chen then finished off the Wellesley sweep at #1 and #2 Singles. Olson, a sophomore, defeated defeated DiNicola-Fawley, 6-2, 6-2. At #1 Singles, junior Carina Chen managed to best Gorham 6-0, 6-0.

The Blue continue conference play this Saturday, October 3, at Babson College at 1:00 PM. Wheaton also continues their conference schedule with a match at Emerson on Saturday.
