Blue Tennis Rolls to 9-0 NEWMAC Win Over Emerson

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College tennis swept to a 9-0 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory over visiting Emerson College on Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, the Blue improve to 6-3 overall and 5-2 in conference play. The Lions are now 0-7 on the year and 0-6 in the NEWMAC. 

The Blue earned a victory by default at #3 Doubles before going on to sweep the #1 and #2 Doubles matches by identical 8-0 scores.

In the top doubles match, Wellesley juniors Carina Chen (Hong Kong) and Andjela Stojkovic (Victoria, British Columbia) defeated Emerson's Tiziana Vazquez and Jamie CoConis. At #2 Doubles, Blue first years Rosanne Hu (Troy, Texas) and Tristan Lorich (New York, N.Y.) took the win over Nora Gonzalez and Lalin Tasa.

The Blue continued to roll in singles play, sweeping #1 Singles through #5 Singles, while winning the #6 Singles match by default.

First year Justine Huang (Coto de Caza, Calif.) captured a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Vazquez at #1 Singles, while the Blue went on to win 6-0, 6-0 in the other four matchups. Stojkovic topped Jamie Yates at #2 Singles, Chen defeated CoConis at #3 Singles, first year So Jin Ki (Seoul, South Korea) earned a victory over Gonzalez at #4 Singles and junior Caroline Dickensheets (Alpharetta, Ga.) closed out the sweep with a victory over Tasa at #5 Singles.

The Blue will play their final NEWMAC regular season match on Saturday, October 10, at 1:00 PM when they travel to Springfield.  Emerson will wrap up their conference schedule at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, October 14, at Babson.
