Blue Tennis Opens Spring Season With 8-1 Win at Texas Lutheran

SEGUIN, Texas -- Wellesley College tennis swept through doubles and took five victories in singles to open the spring half of the 2015-16 season with an 8-1 victory over host Texas Lutheran at the TLU Varsity Tennis Courts on Tuesday evening. Wellesley improves to 9-4 overall, dropping Texas Lutheran to 6-8 on the season.

Wellesley's top doubles pairing of Justine Huang (Coto de Caza, Calif.) and Carina Chen (Hong Kong) eased past Texas Lutheran senior Sofia Vega (Corpus Christi, Texas) and sophomore Alli McLain (Rockport, Texas), 8-2, to set the tone in doubles.

In the remaining match-ups, Blue junior Emily Olson (La Jolla, Calif.) and first year Tristan Lorich (New York, N.Y.) defeated first year Madison Dyer (Marble Falls, Texas) and junior Brooke Taylor (Lake Jackson, Texas), 8-6, and first years Rosanne Hu (Troy, Texas) and So Jin Ki (Seoul, South Korea) topped junior Macy Elliott (Clovis, Calif.) and sophomore Joni Baxley (Sealy, Texas), 8-5.

The Blue then went on to sweep the bottom five matches in singles play, with the only blemish coming at #1 Singles, where Chen was defeated 6-0, 6-3 by Sofia Vega.

Huang took care of McLain at #2 singles, 6-1, 6-1, while Olson defeated Dyer, 6-2, 6-3, at #3. In the remaining matches, Lorich earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Elliott at #4 singles, Ki defeated Baxley, 61-, 6-3 at #5 and junior Dasha Kostikina (Acton, Mass.) took a 6-2, 6-0 win over sophomore Megan Ingram (Live Oak, Texas) at #6.

Wellesley continues their two match Texas road trip tomorrow evening at 5:00 PM EST when they take on Trinity (Tex.).
