POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Wellesley College tennis opened the day with a 5-0 sweep of Bryn Mawr before falling to host Vassar College, 4-1, in the de facto championship match of the 2016 Seven Sisters tennis championship on Sunday at Walker Field House. Wellesley is now 16-5 on the season.

Wellesley 5, Bryn Mawr 0

Wellesley cruised past Bryn Mawr to set up the afternoon showdown with Vassar. In singles, the Blue got straight-set victories from first years Tristan Lorich (New York, N.Y.) and So Jin Ki (Seoul, South Korea) and junior Dasha Kostikina (Acton, Mass.). Lorich defeated senior Kendall Baller (Webster, N.Y.), 6-4, 6-1, at #1 Singles, while Ki got past senior Tirsa Delate (New York, N.Y.), 6-4, 6-2, at #2 Singles. Kostikina closed out the singles sweep with a 6-2, 6-0, win over Abbygail Brewster (Wichita, Kan.) at #3.

It was more of the same in doubles play, as the Blue put away the win in the two doubles, threes singles, no repeat format. Junior Carina Chen (Hong Kong) and first year Justine Huang (Coto de Caza, Calif.) defeated senior Melina Koukoutchos (Mandeville, La.) and Lizzie Siegle (Hillsborough, Calif.), 6-1, 6-1, at #1 Doubles and sophomore Emily Olson (La Jolla, Calif.) and junior Samantha Stone (Greenwich, Conn.) swept to a 6-0, 6-0, win over sophomore Mariam Haider (Hanover Park, Ill.) and first year Em Prozinski (Minneapolis, Minn.) to set-up the winner-take-all match with the Brewers.

Vassar 4, Wellesley 1

The Brewers earned wins in both doubles match and #1 and #3 Singles to capture the Seven Sisters Championship for the second consecutive season. Wellesley's only victory of the match came at #2 Singles, where Huang defeated sophomore Courtney Geiss (Charleston, S.C.), 6-2, 6-1, to get the Blue back into the match after back-to-back losses in doubles play.

Vassar junior Hanna McGuire (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and junior Shayna Becker (Sherman Oaks, Calif) defeated Stone and Kostikina, 6-2, 6-2 in #1 Doubles, while first year Morgane Flournoy (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) and senior Kelsey Van Noy (Houston, Texas) earned a 6-2, 6-3 win over Olson and first year Rosanne Hu (Troy, Texas) at #2 Doubles.

From there, the Brewers went on to clinch the match and the Seven Sisters title when Morgan Fitzgerald defeated Lorich, 6-1, 6-3, at #3 Singles. Vassar rounded out the 4-1 win when sophomore Kate Christensen (Los Angeles, Calif.) took down Chen, 7-6 (1), 6-2, in the top singles match.

The Blue will conclude the 2015-16 season on Thursday afternoon, April 14, with a 4:00 PM match at Tufts.
