WELLESLEY, Mass. – Sophomore Justine Huang (Coto de Caza, Calif.) scored wins in both doubles and singles play, but No. 33 Wellesley College tennis dropped a 7-2 final to No. 7 Tufts on Wednesday evening inside Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.

The Jumbos jump to 8-1 on the year, sending the Blue to 10-4 overall. Wellesley is now 0-2 to start the spring season.

Huang and partner Carina Chen (Hong Kong) opened the match with a 9-7 victory at No. 1 doubles, defeating Tufts sophomores Mina Karamercan (Istanbul, Turkey) and Tomo Iwasaki (Scarsdale, N.Y.).

The Blue were also on the wrong side of a 9-7 final in doubles, as seniors Conner Calabro (Sherman Oaks, Calif) and Jacqueline Baum (Highland Park, Ill.) defeated Rosanne Hu (Sugar Land, Texas) and first year Selina Peng (Taichung, Taiwan) at No. 3. Tufts junior Lauren Louks (Malibu, Calif.) and sophomore Otilia Popa (San Diego, Calif.) earned the other doubles win at No. 2, 8-2, over Wellesley's Andjela Stojkovic (Victoria, British Columbia) and Sarah Yan (Holmdel, N.J.).

Huang went on to earn the only Wellesley win in singles play, defeating Iwasaki, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 3. Chen took the opener in her match at No. 1 with Karamercan, 6-3, but dropped the next two sets, including a tight 7-5 third set, to fall, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5. Yan, Stojkovic, Peng and sophomore Sojin Ki (Irvine, Claif.) all dropped their match-ups in two sets, as Tufts closed out the 7-2 final.

The Blue will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon, April 6, when they make the short trip to Brandeis for a 3:00 PM start. Tufts will play Middlebury in their next outing on Sunday, April 9, at 2:00 PM.
