Wellesley Tennis Extends Win Streak to Four With 7-2 Victory Over Lewis & Clark

POMONA, Calif.-- Wellesley College tennis earned a 7-2 victory over Lewis & Clark on Monday afternoon in Pomona, Calif to continue their spring break trip. The Blue improve to 7-4 on their season, while Lewis & Clark drop to 8-3 overall.

Wellesley took a 3-0 advantage in the match as they swept the Pioneers in doubles. Sophomore Korina Hernandez (Tampa, Fla.) and first year Abigail Schleichkorn (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) took in the first win of the day for the Blue as they defeated senior Christine Eliazo (Foster City, Calif.) and sophomore Tash Hood (London, U.K.) with a score of 8-3.

First years Lizzy Kong (Mason, Ohio) and Lily Chu (Princeton, N.J.) took the next set at No. 3 over senior Glenna Gee-Taylor (Louisville, Colo.) and sophomore Caroline Hennes (Seattle, Wash.) with an 8-4 victory. Sophomore Selina Peng (Taichung, Taiwan) and junior Justine Huang (Coto de Caza, Calif.) completed the doubles sweep at No. 1 as they battled to a 9-7 victory over senior Kacey Incerpi (Los Altos, Calif.) and first year Riley Hanks (Redmond, Ore.).

Kong, Huang, Hernandez, and junior Sojin Ki (Irvine, Calif.) all earned victories in singles competition. Kong took the first singles victory for the Blue as she defeated Hood, 6-3, 6-1. In the No. 1 slot, Huang took her sets 6-4, 6-4 over Eliazo. Hernandez followed behind at No. 5 with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over first year Madelyn Landerfelt (Minden, Nev.). Ki closed out the victories for the Blue as she defeated Hanks 6-2, 6-3. Lewis & Clark took their two victories at No. 2, as Incerpi defeated Peng 6-3, 6-4, and at No. 4 when sophomore Chloe Sermet (Bali, Indonesia) defeated Chu in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 10-4.

Wellesley will play again on Tuesday, March 27 at 8:00 PM at Whittier. Lewis & Clark will return to action on Sunday, April 8 at 11:00 AM as they travel to Willamette.
