Blue Tennis Earns ITA Team Academic Honors, Four Named Scholar-Athletes
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2019 All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes on Thursday. All-Academic honors were awarded to 940 teams and thousands of scholar-athletes across all five divisions of college tennis, including the Wellesley College tennis program and four members of the Blue team.
Wellesley earned All-Academic team honors for the fourth consecutive year (2019-2016) with a team GPA above 3.20 during the 2018-19 season. In addition, four members of the squad also earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, including:
- Justine Huang '19 (Coto de Caza, Calif.)
- Sojin Ki '19 (Irvine, Calif.)
- Abigail Schleichkorn '21 (Pacific Palisades, Calif.)
- Libby Chang '22 (San Marino, Calif.)
ITA scholar-athletes must: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) is the governing body of college tennis, overseeing men's and women's varsity tennis at all levels - NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and Junior/Community College.
