Blue Tennis Named ITA All-Academic Team; Nine Earn Scholar-Athlete Honors

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College tennis has earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) 2021 Division III ITA All-Academic Team honors. Paced by a program-record nine Scholar-Athlete recipients, the Blue earned ITA All-Academic Team recognition for the sixth consecutive season.

2021 graduate Abigail Schleichkorn (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) earned the honor for a third time and classmate Lily Chu (Princeton, N.J.) was recognized by the ITA for the second time. Junior Libby Chang (San Marino, Calif.) earned Scholar-Athlete honors for the third consecutive season. Schleichkorn graduated with a degree in American Studies/Art History, Chu earned her degree in Media Arts and Science and Chang is studying Economics/Statistics.

Six more members of the squad earned ITA recognition for the first time. Juniors Cinji Lee (Seoul, South Korea), Michaela Markwart (Hanover, Mass.) and Michelle Shen (Dallas, Texas) were joined by first years Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.), Hannah Kimura (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) on the Scholar-Athlete squad. Lee is a Media Arts and Sciences major, Markwart is studying Psychology and Shen is focused on Environmental Studies. Alviar is a Neuroscience major, Kimura is studying Economics and Mu is undeclared.

To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale), for the current academic year.  To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year.
