The Blue tennis team opened up day one of the NEWITT Tournament with action in both doubles and singles on Friday. Wellesley had a fantastic day as a team, winning nine of eleven singles matches and five of six doubles matches.

In the NEWITT format, each team will play each other in a doubles match and then play in singles against the same pair. Whoever wins two of three matches moves on in the draw.

In the A draw, the duo of Ashleigh Parlman (Acton, Mass.) and Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) who made it to the quarter finals last week at the ITA Regionals, won their first match over a Wesleyan pair. With the win, the team advances to the second round and will play at 8:00 AM tomorrow against Sasha Gaeth (Seattle, Wash.) and Kriti Williams (Braintree, Mass.) also of Wesleyan University. Over in the C draw, #1 seeded Michelle Shen (Dallas, Texas) and Cinji Lee (Seoul, South Korea) took care of business and defeated a Gordon College pair and will compete at 9:00 AM tomorrow morning at Smith College. Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Cristiana DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) also competed in the C Draw and won their match over a Mount Holyoke team to advance to the second round. Wellesley's Michaela Markwart (Hanover, Mass.) and Libby Chang (San Marino, Calif.) participated in the B Draw, but were bounced to the consolation bracket in a tough loss to a MIT pair.

Action from the NEWITT Tournament will continue tomorrow morning starting at 8:00 AM.
