Wellesley Tennis Drops Season Opener 8-1 at Brandeis

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Wellesley College tennis dropped the team's spring season opener 8-1 on the road at Brandeis on Sunday afternoon.

Brandeis (1-2) started on the right note by sweeping the doubles matches to go ahead 3-0. Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India) and Sabrina Loui (Honolulu, Hawaii) took down Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) 8-2 in the opening match.

The duo of Nikita Salkar (Mumbai, India) and Jiayi Zhang (Shanghai, China) cruised to a 8-3 victory over Cristiana DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) and Hannah Kimura (Los Angeles, Calif.). The doubles sweep was completed by Ana Hatfield (Rockford, Ill.) and Ella Subramanian (Parkland, Fla.) Michaela Markwart (Hanover, Mass.) and Libby Chang (San Marino, Calif.) by a score of 8-5.

The first victory of the season for the Blue came from a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory by Mu over Hatfield in singles No. 2. In the singles No. 1 match, Parwani defeated Markwar 6-3 and 6-2. The Judges would pick up victories in the No. 3 and No. 4 match with Salkar taking down Alviar 6-1, 6-3 and Loui winning 6-0, 6-3 over Chang respectively. DeAgazio battled with Subramanian before falling in three sets by a score of 3-6, 7-5, 4-10. The final contest was won by Anastasia Sia (Thessaloniki, Greece) of the Judges 6-4, 6-3 over Kimura.  

Wellesley returns for the home opener on Saturday, February 26 versus RPI at 1:00 PM.
