Tennis Falls 5-4 to Colby College on Saturday Afternoon

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The No. 27 ranked Wellesley College tennis team fell 5-4 to Colby College on Saturday afternoon inside the Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.

The Blue took two of three doubles matches for the third consecutive time and quickly took a 2-1 lead. The No. 1 doubles match was controlled by sophomores Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) by a score of 8-6 over Carly Levitz (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and Lindsey Hernandez (Chester, N.J.). The Blue also earned a win in the No. 3 doubles with sophomore Cristiana DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) and senior Michelle Shen (Dallas, Texas) defeating Caroline Kittle (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Caleigh McClain (Chesterfield, Mo.) by a score of 8-1. Colby got one back in the No. 2 doubles after Sam Riordan (Madison, Conn.) Sydney Landau (Charlotte, N.C.) won 8-3 over seniors Michaela Markwart (Hanover, Mass.) and Libby Chang (San Marino, Calif.).

The Mules caught fire to begin the singles matches beginning with Riordan defeating Mu in a tight 6-3, 4-6 (10-6) battle. Levitz then defeated Markwart 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles and Landau won 6-3, 5-7 (13-11) over Shen. The match was then closed out by Hernandez in a 6-3, 6-1 win over Chang as Colby took a 5-2 lead. The Blue would earn two more victories in the No. 5 and 6 matches as Alviar dominated 6-4, 6-1 over Kittle and DeAgazio went 6-1, 6-3 over Katharine Dougherty (Winchester, Mass.) respectively.

Wellesley is back in action against Whitman on Friday, March 18 at 12:00 PM in Trinity, Texas. Colby will play at Brandeis tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 PM.
