Tennis Dominates at Springfield with 8-1 Victory

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Wellesley College tennis took care of business with an 8-1 road conference win over Springfield College on Tuesday. 

Sophomores Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) kicked off the doubles with a 8-0 sweep over Gabriella Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass.) and Taylor Suozzo (Bedford, N.H.) on the No. 1 court. Senior Michelle Shen (Dallas, Texas) and sophomore Cristiana DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) followed up with an 8-3 win in the No. 2 doubles and senior Libby Chang (San Marino, Calif.) and junior Celeste Tran (Los Altos, Calif.) finished the doubles sweep with a 8-1 win.

After capturing the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Singles Athlete of the Week, Mu controlled the No. 1 match 6-0, 6-3 over Heaney-Secord. Shen took over in the No. 2 spot for the Blue and earned a 6-3, 6-0 win over Ramida Manataweewat (Thailand, Bangkok). Alviar remained scorching in the singles with a 6-2, 6-4 victory. DeAgazio and Tran closed out the match with 6-1, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-0 victories respectively.

Wellesley will remain in the conference for a road match at Mount Holyoke on Saturday, April 9 at 11:00 AM. Springfield will play at Emerson on Friday, April 8 at 3:00 PM.
