Blue Tennis Sweeps Clark, 9-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. - Backed by strong play across the board, Wellesley College tennis completed a 9-0 sweep of Clark in both teams New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener on Saturday at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.

Wellesley won No. 2 and 3 doubles by identical scores of 8-0, while No. 1 doubles was not far behind with an 8-1 victory. 

Junior Cristiana DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) and first year Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) shutout Clark's sophomore Leilani Brown (Trumbull, Conn.) and first year Merielle Kane at No. 2 doubles while junior Jennifer Fan (Vancouver, British Columbia) and first year Isabella DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) defeated senior Maeve McEnroe (Marion, Mass.) and senior Nardin Sayoufi (Shelton, Conn.) at No. 3. 

At No. 1 doubles juniors Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) won against junior Hannah Russo (Bridgewater, Mass.) and senior Liliya Georgitsa (Greenfield, Mass.).

Alviar, I. DeAgazio, and Pak all secured 6-0, 6-0 shutouts over the Clark counterparts at No. 2, 3, and 5 singles to seal the NEWMAC victory for the Blue.

Mu and C. DeAgazio were not far behind, with 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0 wins at No. 1 and 4 singles.

First year Daniela Chiarini (Miami, Fla.) made her collegiate debut at No. 6 singles against Clark sophomore Emma Allen (West Boylston, Mass.). The Wellesley rookie made the most of her opportunity, finishing the sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 win.

The Blue continue their five-game homestand on Tuesday with a NEWMAC matchup versus Springfield at 3:30 PM. The Cougars travel to Babson at the same time to take on the Beavers.
