Wellesley Tennis Spotless Against Springfield, 9-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. - Wellesley College tennis earned their second straight 9-0 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory Springfield on Tuesday at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.

Wellesley swept all three doubles matches. Junior Jennifer Fan (Vancouver, British Columbia) and first year Isabella DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) earned an 8-0 shutout for the Blue over first year Emma Aberle (West Warren, Mass.) and senior Veronica Fulgieri (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) at No. 3 doubles. 

No. 1 doubles saw Wellesley juniors Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) defeat Springfield's team of sophomore Ramida Manataweewat (Bangkok, Thailand) and senior Gabby Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass.) with a 8-2 score.

The closest doubles match was No. 2 doubles, with junior Cristiana DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) and first year Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) defeating sophomore Taylor Suozzo (Bedford, N.H.) and junior Kate Rosselli (Trumbull, Conn.).

I. DeAgazio had a spotless 6-0, 6-0 win over Fulgieri at No. 3 singles before Mu clinched the match for the Blue with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Manataweewat at No. 1 singles.

Alviar fought hard at No. 2 singles to pull out a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win over Heaney-Secord while C. DeAgazio put away Suozzo 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4.

Pak and Fan won convincing 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-2 matches at No. 5 and 6 singles.

The Blue remain home tomorrow for another 3:30 match, this time against non-conference Colby-Sawyer. The Pride host Trinity (Conn.) at 3:00 PM on Thursday.
