Wellesley Tennis Blanks Emerson, 9-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Wellesley College tennis continued their undefeated New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) season with a 9-0 victory over Emerson at Harvard University on Tuesday. The Blue (5-4 Overall, 4-0 NEWMAC) have now won five straight matches, their longest win streak since 2018.  

Wellesley hopped out to an early lead over the Lions (3-7 Overall, 0-3 NEWMAC) with three wins in doubles, before winning across the board in singles.

First years Isabella DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) and Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) took the first point with an 8-1 win over first year Chase Stinson and Emma Londoner at No. 2 doubles. 

Junior Jennifer Fan (Vancouver, British Columbia) and first year Daniela Chiarini (Miami, Fla.) added to Wellesley's lead with an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles against junior Susan Eyring and first year Carlson Jones.

No. 1 doubles completed the sweep with juniors Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) defeating senior Sophie Oglensky (Port Monmouth, N.J.) and junior Gabrielle McGovern (Woodbridge, Conn.) 8-3.

Mu played flawless tennis in a 6-0, 6-0 win over Oglensky at No. 1 singles and only moments later Fan clinched the match for the Blue with a win by the same score at No. 5 singles.

DeAgazio was victorious at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-0 against Eyring before Alviar finished a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles over McGovern. Pak made the lead 8-0 for the Blue with a 6-0, 6-0 win over junior Lauren Germani (Lincoln, R.I.) at No. 4.

Chiarini and Jones had an exciting back and forth at No. 6 singles. The Wellesley first year, Chiarini, took a 7-6 first set in a tiebreaker before pulling away with a 6-2 second set to complete the shutout for Wellesley.

The Blue finish their two-match road trip on Saturday with a 12:00 PM match at Wheaton while the Lions travel to Endicott at 3:00 PM on Friday.
