Blue Tennis Pushes Past Wheaton, 7-2

NORTON, Mass. - Wellesley College tennis utilized a sweep of doubles to win 7-2 over Wheaton in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match at Clark Tennis Courts on Saturday. The Blue (6-4 Overall, 5-0 NEWMAC) have now won their last six matches with their win over the Lyons (1-10 Overall, 0-3 NEWMAC).

Wellesley's No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams won by identical scores of 8-2. Juniors Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) defeated first years Kara Greenlee (San Antonio, Texas) and  Alissa Ortiz (El Paso, Texas) at No. 1 doubles while junior Cristiana DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) and first year Emilee pak (Chicago, Ill.) got the win over junior Mareike Mueller (Amesbury, Mass.) and sophomore Izzy Kruse (Woodstock, Ga.) at No. 2 doubles. 

Junior Jennifer Fan (Vancouver, British Columbia) and first year Isabella DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) picked up an 8-3 win for the Blue over juniors Katalyn Foster (Weston, Conn.) and Zoe West (New York, N.Y.) at No. 3 doubles to complete the sweep for Wellesley.

Alviar and C. DeAgazio picked up 6-2, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 wins at No. 1 and 3 singles to clinch the match for the Blue. Pak and Fan followed suit with 6-0, 6-4 and 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 and 5 singles.

The Lyons got on the board at No. 2 singles when I. DeAgazio had to retire against Greenlee. The score was 6-3, 0-3 for I. DeAgazio when the match concluded.

Wheaton won the final point at No. 6 singles. First year Haylee Doiron (Lowell, Mass.) of Wheaton and first year Daniela Chiarini (Miami, Fla.) battled in a close match that ultimately saw the Lyons come away with a 7-6, 6-4 win to finish off 7-2 day in favor of the visiting Blue.

The Blue host MIT in a NEWMAC match on Tuesday at 4:30 PM while the Lyons remain home Tuesday to host Babson at 4:00 PM.
