WELLESLEY, Mass. – No. 40 Wellesley College tennis dropped a 9-0 final to No. 27 Brandeis University in a non-conference match between a pair of ranked opponents on Saturday at the Wellesley College tennis courts.

The Judges (8-8 overall) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play. Sophomore Cecilia Denis (Ardmore, Pa.) and first year Ella Chase (Sudbury, Mass.) cruised to an 8-2 win over Wellesley (6-6 overall) junior Jennifer Fan (Vancouver, British Columbia) and first year Isabella DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) at No. 3 doubles. At No. 2, sophomore Sabrina Loui (Honolulu, Hawaii) and first year Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, China) helped Brandeis take a 2-0 lead just minutes later, finishing off an 8-4 win over Wellesley junior Cristiana DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) and first year Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.).

At No. 1 doubles, Brandeis sophomore Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India) and first year Rebecca Suarez (Huntington, N.Y.) rallied from a 7-6 deficit to sneak past Wellesley juniors Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) to earn an 8-7 win and a 3-0 advantage for the visitors heading into singles play.

In singles, Chase upped the Judges' lead to 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Pak at No. 5 singles.

No. 1, 2, 3, and 4 singles were all three-set wars between the teams. The Judges prevailed at all four spots despite their resilience from the Blue. Parwani and Zhang each came back from down a set against Mu and Alviar at No. 1 and 2 singles. Parwani won 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 and Zhang defeated Alviar 4-6, 6-2, 6-0.

At No. 3 and 4 singles it was Wellesley who came back down a set, only for Brandeis to come away with third sets. I. DeAgazio fell 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 to first year Phoebe Tamaoki (Cambridge, Mass.) at No. 2 while C. DeAgazio lost 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 to sophomore Anastasia Sia (Thessaloniki, Greece) at No. 4.

Brandeis sealed the 9-0 win with junior Ella Subramanian (Parkland, Fla.) earning a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Fan at No. 6 singles.

It's a quick turnaround for the Blue, who host NYU tomorrow at 11:00 AM. The Judges will return home to host Endicott tomorrow at 10:00 AM.
