No. 3 Wellesley Falls to No. 2 MIT in NEWMAC Semifinals

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - No. 2 seed MIT defeated No. 3 seed Wellesley College tennis 6-0 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Tennis Championship Semifinals on Saturday at Dupont Tennis Courts.

The Engineers will take on No. 1 seed Babson tomorrow at 12:00 PM in the NEWMAC Women's Tennis Championship finals.

MIT earned their first point with a concise 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles from grad student Caroline Vincent (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) and first year Alaina Kolli (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) over Wellesley first years Isabella DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) and Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.).

The Engineers also won at No. 1 doubles with senior Sarah Pertsemlidis (Coppell, Texas) and sophomore Jessica Lu (Austin, Texas) earning an 8-3 victory over juniors Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.).

No. 3 doubles was close throughout with Wellesley's pairing of juniors Cristiana DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) and Jennifer Fan (Vancouver, British Columbia) trading games with MIT senior Seraphin Castelino (Superior, Colo.) and first year Artemis Pados (Delray Beach, Fla.). The Engineers pulled away late, winning the final two games to take an 8-5 match and increase MIT's lead to 3-0.

Lu won for the Engineers 6-1, 6-0 over I. DeAgazio at No. 3 singles before senior Sara Fernandez (South Miami, Fla.) locked up the win for MIT with a 6-0, 6-0 performance against Fan at No. 6 singles. Also finishing at the same time was No. 1 singles, with Pertsemlidis winning over Mu 6-3, 6-0.
