Wellesley Tennis Sees Success on Day One of Wellesley Invitational

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College tennis completed day one of the Wellesley Invitational against Babson, Brandeis, and Trinity (Conn.) on Friday. Prior to the matches, there was a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly resurfaced Amy Batchelor '88, Trustee, Tennis Courts.

Wellesley seniors Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) won 8-5 against Angelina Shyltsyna (Odessa, Ukraine) and Josephine Kimball (New York, N.Y.) then fell 8-4 to Babson's Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) and Olivia Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.).

Sophomore Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) and first year Kriti Sarav (Chicago, Ill.) defeated Trinity's Ella Baker (Gladstone, N.J.) and Elise Brennan (Valatie, N.Y.) 8-3 before falling 8-4 in a second match against Brandeis' Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, China) and Sanjana Kumar (Phoenix, Ariz.).

Blue first years Dalia Khera (Houston, Texas) and Michelle Yeo (Singapore) won 8-3 against Trinity's Naisha Rathi (Westbury, N.Y.) and Allie Francis (Westport, Conn.). In the second match against Babson's pairing of Elena Keitt (Austin, Texas) and Laetitia Rizk (Beirut, Lebanon), Khera and Yeo lost 8-4.

First year Lily Cade (Minneapolis, Minn.) and classmate Veda Madhusudan (Short Hills, N.J.) earned an 8-2 win over Johanna Woitschätzke (München, Germany) and Phebe Fisher (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.).

Cade then teamed up with Wellesley senior Jennifer Fan (Vancouver, British Columbia). The pair lost 8-2 against Brandeis' team of Ella Chase (Lincoln, Mass.) and Ella Subramanian (Parkland, Fla.).

The Wellesley Invitational continues tomorrow morning starting at 9:00 AM.
