Wellesley Tennis Sweeps Linfield, 9-0

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – Wellesley College tennis wrapped up spring break with a 9-0 sweep against Linfield University on Thursday. The Blue (5-1 Overall) have now won four consecutive matches.

Wellesley managed to win all but two sets against the Wildcats (2-6 Overall) in the victory. 

Sophomore Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) and first year Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) earned the first point with an 8-2 win over junior Alexis Garner (Meridian, Idaho) and first year Kaitlynn Canubida (Mililani, Hawaii) at No. 2 doubles.

Wellesley won 8-5 matches at both No. 1 and 3 doubles. Seniors Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) beat senior Sarah Forester (Corvallis, Ore.) and junior Emma Tuttle (Ridgefield, Wash.) at the No. 1 spot. First years Lily Cade (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Kriti Sarav (Chicago, Ill.) were victorious against sophomore Lisa Ponti (Westminster, Calif.) and first year Samantha Baltz (Rio Rancho, N.M.) at No. 3 doubles.

Alviar and first years Veda Madhusudan (Short Hills, N.J.) and Dalia Khera (Houston, Texas) clinched the match for Wellesley with straight set victories at No. 2, 4 and 6 singles. Alviar won 6-2, 6-1 over Tuttle. Madhusudan took a 6-0, 6-3 victory against Garner. Khera claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win over Ponti.

Pak made it 7-0 with a three-set, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0(6) match at No. 3 singles against Canubida. Sarav added a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles.

Mu completed the shutout with a gritty 7-5, 3-6, 1-0(11)

Wellesley returns home to host Springfield in a NEWMAC match on Saturday, March 30 at 12:00 PM. Linfield goes to Occidental at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, March 27.
