Wellesley Tennis Blanks Springfield, 9-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College (6-1 Overall, 1-0 NEWMAC) tennis picked up a 9-0 NEWMAC win over Springfield College (0-8 Overall, 0-2 NEWMAC) on Saturday at The Amy Batchelor '88, Trustee, Tennis Courts. The match extended the Blue's win streak to five.

Sophomore Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) and first year Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) gave Wellesley its first point with an 8-2 win over grad student Veronica Fulgieri (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and senior Kate Rosselli (Trumbull, Conn.) at No. 2 doubles.

At No. 1 doubles, seniors Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) earned an 8-5 win over junior Ramida Manataweewat (Thailand, Bangkok) and first year Kapom Vettayawaikoon (Phuket, Thailand).

Senior Jennifer Fan (Vancouver, British Columbia) and first year Dalia Khera (Houston, Texas) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 victory against sophomores Alysa Elliot (Gros-Islet, Saint Lucia) and Kelly McGoldrick (Monroe, N.Y.).

First years Kriti Sarav (Chicago, Ill.) and Lily Cade (Minneapolis, Minn.) quickly clinched the match for the Blue with straight sets wins at No. 5 and 6 singles. Sarav won 6-0, 6-0 over McGoldrick. Cade grabbed a 6-1, 6-1 victory against sophomore Emma Aberle (West Warren, Mass.).

Xu defeated Manataweewat 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Madhusudan followed with a comeback 4-6, 6-1, 1-0(9) win over Elliot at No. 4 singles.

Mu and Pak closed out the sweep with three set wins at No. 1 and 3 singles. Mu won 4-6, 6-4, 1-0(8) at No. 1 singles over Vettayawaikoon. Pak earned a 2-6, 6-1, 1-0(6) decision over Fulgieri at No. 3 singles.

Wellesley next competes at 12:00 PM against Salve Regina on Saturday, April 6. Springfield plays at Wheaton at the same time.
