Blue Tennis Falls 7-2 to No. 40 Brandeis

WALTHAM, Mass. – Wellesley College tennis fell 7-2 to No. 40 Brandeis University in a non-conference match on Sunday. Senior captain Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) and first year Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) grabbed points for the Blue (6-2 Overall, 1-0 NEWMAC) at No. 2 and 3 singles.

The Judges (7-6 Overall) picked up a 3-0 lead after doubles. Junior Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India) and sophomore Rebecca Suarez (Huntington, N.Y.) defeated Wellesley senior Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and Alviar 8-2 at No. 1 doubles.

Junior Sabrina Loui (Honolulu, Hawaii) and sophomore Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, China) picked up an 8-4 point for the Judges at No. 2 doubles over sophomore Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) and Xu.

Junior Cecilia Denis (Ardmore, Pa.) and first year Chahana Budhbhatti (Ahmedabad, India) completed the sweep by winning 8-3 against Blue first years Lily Cade (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Kriti Sarav (Chicago, Ill.) at No. 3 doubles.

Suarez increased Brandeis' lead to 4-0 with a 6-1, 7-6(10) win over Mu at No. 1 singles.

Alviar gave Wellesley its first point against Budhbhatti at No. 3 singles. Alviar held on to win a 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 three-setter. Brandeis' Zhang responded by sealing the team win with a 6-1, 6-0 performance against Pak at No. 4 singles.

Xu collected a victory for Wellesley at No. 2 singles. The first year defeated Parwani 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(3).

The Judges added on points at No. 5 and 6 singles. First year Lika Bolkvadze (Tbilisi, Georgia) defeated first year Veda Madhusudan (Short Hills, N.J.) 6-4, 7-5 at No. 5 singles. Junior Anastasia Sia (Thessaloniki, Greece) earned a three-set 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(6) win over Sarav.

Wellesley returns home on Saturday, April 13 to host MIT at 12:00 PM. Brandeis hosts Skidmore at 2:00 PM that same day.
