No. 19 MIT Gets By Wellesley Tennis, 8-1

WELLESLEY, Mass. – No. 19 MIT earned an 8-1 victory over No. 43 Wellesley College tennis in a  NEWMAC match on Saturday at The Amy Batchelor '88, Trustee, Tennis Courts. The Engineers (9-3 Overall, 4-0 NEWMAC) took a 2-1 lead after doubles before sweeping singles. The Blue (6-3 Overall, 1-1 NEWMAC) grabbed its lone point at No. 2 doubles. 

MIT Senior Kimberly Liao (Commack, N.Y.) and first year Anastasia Samets (Ocean, N.J.) picked up a clean 8-0 win over first years Lily Cade (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Kriti Sarav (Chicago, Ill.) at No. 3 doubles.

The Blue struck back with an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) and first year Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) defeated junior Jay Lu (Austin, Texas) and first year Saina Deshpande (Pune, India).

The Engineers took a 2-1 lead at No. 1 doubles. Sophomores Alaina Kolli (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) and Artemis Pados (Delray Beach, Fla.) earned an 8-4 decision over seniors Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.)

Kolli recorded a 6-1, 6-0 win over Cade at No. 4 singles. Deshpande topped first year Dalia Khera (Houston, Texas) 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.

MIT clinched the team victory with wins at No. 2 and 6 singles. Liao beat first year Veda Madhusudan 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Samets took a 6-1, 6-0 match over Senior Jennifer Fan (Vancouver, British Columbia) at No. 6 singles.

MIT closed out the 8-1 affair with wins at No. 1 and 3 singles. First year Katya Shepherd Johnson (Takoma Park, Md.) won 6-3, 6-1 over Xu at No. 1 singles. Lu grabbed a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Sarav at No. 3 singles.

The Blue host senior day tomorrow morning at 11:00 AM against Skidmore. MIT heads out to Springfield for a 3:30 PM contest on Tuesday, April 16.
