Wellesley Tennis Stopped by No. 44 Skidmore on Senior Day, 7-2

WELLESLEY, Mass. – No. 43 Wellesley College tennis fell 7-2 to No. 44 Skidmore College on Sunday at the Amy Batchelor '88, Trustee, Tennis Courts.

Prior to the match, Wellesley acknowledged three seniors for their contributions to the Blue. The seniors honored were Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.), Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Jennifer Fan (Vancouver, British Columbia). 

The Thoroughbreds (8-4 Overall) opened the match by taking two out of three points in doubles. Skidmore proceeded to win five of six singles matches over the Blue (6-4 Overall, 1-1 NEWMAC).

Wellesley earned a point at No. 1 doubles. Mu and Alviar defeated juniors Grace Troung (Burke, Va.) and Konika Dhull (Chandigarh, India) 8-4.

Skidmore responded with wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles. Junior Ella Provost (Hamilton, Mass.) and first year Katie Wong (East Brunswick, N.J.) grabbed an 8-4 decision over sophomore Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) and first year Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.).

At No. 3 doubles, senior Katherine Almquist (Union Pier, Mich.) and sophomore Beilynn Geiss (Loveland, Colo.) beat first years Lily Cade (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Kriti Sarav (Chicago, Ill.) 8-2.

Dhull grabbed a 6-4, 6-3 win over Mu at No. 1 singles. Provost and Almquist clinched the match with wins at No. 4 and 5 singles. Provost beat Pak 7-6(8), 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Almquist picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win against first year Veda Madhusudan (Short Hills, N.J.).

Sarav took a point for Wellesley at No. 6 singles. The first year won 7-6(4), 6-2 over Geiss.

Wong and Troung closed out the match with victories at No. 2 and 3 singles. Truong earned a three-set 4-6, 6-4, 1-0(5) over Xu at No. 2 doubles. Wong topped Alviar 7-6(5), 6-4.

The Blue will wrap up a three-match homestand against Emerson at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, April 16. Skidmore heads to Vassar on Sunday, April 21 for a 2:00 PM match.
