School Records, Qualifying Marks Highlight Blue T&F Action at Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Wellesley College track and field team opened the 2014 portion of their indoor schedule with a fifth place finish out of 12 teams at the Tufts University Invitational.

As a team, the Blue recorded seven top-five finishes at the event. Wellesley compiled 59 total points, finishing behind only Tufts (212), Bridgewater State (83.33), Merrimack (82), and Worcester State (75.33).

Leading the way for the Blue was a first place finish by the 4x800m relay team. Wellesley recorded a time of 10:03.89, coming from the foursome of sophomore
Sharon Ng, first-year Meg Kelly, sophomore Priyanka Fouda, and first-year Mary Keenan

First-year
Isabella Narvaez and senior Doris Berman each recorded second place finishes at the event. Narvaez set a school record in the 200m dash, finishing the race in 27.07. Berman earned her runner-up finish in the 5000m event, recording a time of 19:51.07.

Three other Wellesley athletes finished in the top-five, including third place finishes from Ng, Keenan, and junior
Nicole Chui. Ng was third in the 1000m, finishing in 3:06.26, while Keenan placed third in the mile in 5:25.65. Chui finished third in the 3000m race, clocking in at 10:48.39, just ahead of first-year Sara Vannah, who finished fourth in 10:48.59.

Individually, Ng (1000m), Chui (3000m) and Vannah (3000m) all hit qualifying marks in their events. The threesome recorded times earn them spots in both Division III New Englands and the ECAC Championships, while also hitting personal best times.

Also for the Blue, the 4x200m relay team of Navaez, junior
Kathleen Hanlon, senior Sheena Dupuy, and junior Kendra Waters, set a new school record. The group finished fifth overall in 1:52.17.

Wellesley track and field is back in action next Saturday at Boston University. The Blue will compete against competition from Divisions I, II, and III at the Terrier Invitational.
