MEDFORD, Mass. -- It took 29 years before a member of the Wellesley College track & field team was able to break Jennifer Kegel's school record time of 9:59.00 in the 3000m, now, thanks to her performance on Saturday at the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet, senior Sonja Cwik (La Canada, Calif.) has done it twice in one season.

Cwik, who entered the day ranked 22nd on the NCAA DIII qualifying list thanks to her record-breaking time of 9:57.00 earlier this year at the Boston University Valentine Invitational, propelled herself into the top-ten in the nation with a school and personal record time of 9:49.44. Cwik took full advantage of her last chance prior to the announcement of participants for the 2017 NCAA Divison III Indoor Championships by finishing first out of 17 runners in the event.

The Blue had two in the top-five in the 3000m, as classmate Edie Sharon took fifth with a personal record time of 10:23.51.

Also in action for Wellesley on Saturday, senior Isabella Narvaez (Cali, Colombia) added a runner-up performance in the 400m, running to a time of 58.75. Narvaez entered the day ranked in top-50 in the event on the heels of her time of 57.92 at the BU Valentine Invitational.

The 2017 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place, Friday-Saturday, March 10 & 11 at North Central College in Naperville, Ill. Check wellesleyblue.com on Sunday for information on qualifiers from the Blue.
