Marks, Wellesley Track & Field Earn USTFCCCA Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS -- The Wellesley College track & field team and sophomore Ari Marks (Eagle Point, Ore.) have been recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their outstanding academic performance during the 2019-20 indoor season.

Overall, there were 209 different programs honored for their academic excellence, with the Blue earning a cumulative team grade point average (GPA) of 3.476. To be selected as a Division III Track & Field All-Academic Teams must have at least a 3.1 GPA on a 4.0 scale through the most recent semester/quarter. The Blue continued to excel in the virtual classroom despite the postponement of the spring outdoor season, with 11 members of the team also earning NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honors.

Marks, a Political Science major, finished the indoor season ranked 12th in the region and 35th in the nation in the 3000m to qualify for All-Academic Individual honors. All-Academic Individuals must carry a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale through the most recently completed grading period and must have finished the indoor season among the top 50 individuals as listed on the descending order lists on TFRRS.org. Overall, there were 477 women from 123 institutions who were named All-Academic Athletes.

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) is a non-profit professional organization representing cross country and track & field coaches of all levels. The organization represents thousands of coaching members encompassing NCAA track & field programs (DI, DII, and DIII) and includes members representing the NAIA and NJCAA, as well as a number of state high school coaches associations. The USTFCCCA serves as an advocate for cross country and track & field coaches, providing a leadership structure to assist the needs of a diverse membership, serving as a lobbyist for coaches' interests, and working as a liaison between the various stakeholders in the sports of cross country and track & field.
