Wellesley Track & Field Ninth at Silfen Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Wellesley College track & field placed ninth on Saturday to conclude the Silfen Invitational.

Host Connecticut College won the event with 121.5 points, followed by Springfield (110.5) and Wesleyan (83). The Blue took ninth with 39 points.

Sophomore Aoife Fitzgerald (Paxton, Mass.) and first year Charlie Barron (Chattanooga, Tenn.) ran 1:01.37 and 1:01.82 to take sixth and eighth in the 400m race.

Wellesley's 4x100m relay team of sophomore Ria Goveas (Bangalore, India), first year Sara Maeve Klingensmith (Chapel Hill, N.C.), senior Sally Richardson (Orono, Minn.), and sophomore Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas) took seventh place with a time of 51.40.

The 4x400m relay team of Barron, Fitzgerald, and first years Aleah Ghiasuddin (Newburyport, Mass.) and Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) placed third with a 4:09.51.

First year Kenya Francis (South Atlanta, Ga.) earned points for the Blue with a ninth place finish in the shot put, throwing for 10.54m.

Senior Emily Doyle (Mobile, Ala.) had a PR in the hammer throw with a distance of 37.42m.

Wellesley will host Smith and Mount Holyoke for a tri-meet next Saturday beginning at 10:30 AM.
