Blue Track & Field Opens 2023-24 Season at the Mary Grinaker Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Wellesley College track & field started the 2023-24 on Saturday at the Mary Grinaker Invitational, hosted by Smith College.

Sophomore Simone Beauchamp (Aurora, Colo.) won the 3000m event with a personal best time of 11:09.53. Classmate Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) was third with a time of 11:26.95.

Wellesley's 4x200m Relay team of sophomore Sara Maeve Klingensmith (Chapel Hill, N.C.), seniors Taylor Quaye (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Eriko Darcy (Chicago, Ill.), and sophomore Charlie Barron (Chattanooga, Tenn.) finished second behind Trinity with a time of 1:50.7.

Senior Emily Doyle (Mobile, Ala.) came in second in the Weight Throw with a distance of 10.99m and classmate Caitlin Gordon (Vancouver, British Columbia) earned fifth with a personal best distance of 10.12m. Gordon later finished ninth in the Shot Put with a distance of 7.95m.

Junior Erin Dickinson (Papillion, Neb.) and Klingensmith were 2-3 in the Long Jump. Dickinson finished with a distance of 4.90m while Klingensmith had a distance of 4.83m. Dickinson was fourth in the Triple Jump with a distance of 9.87m.

Senior Bianca Lee (Hong Kong, China) grabbed third in the 800m event with a time 2:37.03.

Barron, Darcy, and junior Aoife Fitzgerald (Paxton, Mass.) finished 3-4-5 in the 400m race, with respective times of 1:03.14, 1:04.24, and 1:05.00.

Junior Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas) placed sixth in the 60m dash finals with a time of 8.33 and Quaye finished seventh in the 200m dash finals with a time of 28.45.

Up next, the Blue compete on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational at Brandeis.
