Wellesley Track & Field 12th After One Day of Emory Spring Break Classic

ATLANTA, Ga. – Wellesley College track & field began the outdoor season at the Emory Spring Break Classic on Friday. The event is being held at nearby Morehouse College.

The Blue are currently in 12th place after one day of competition. Hope College leads a competitive field of 26 teams, which includes multiple Division I and Division II teams, with 57.50 points. 

Sophomore Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) placed fourth out of 22 in the 1500m race with a time of 4:44.00. Whinney earned the Blue five points with her performance.

Classmate Kenya Francis (Atlanta, Ga.) placed 10th in the Hammer Throw. Francis' distance of 38.14 marked a personal-best. Francis also threw for a distance of 10.25m in the Shot Put event. The distance earned Francis 17th place in a field of 33.

Sophomore Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) came in 12th out of 31 in the 5000m event with a time of 18:51.10.

Classmate Sara Maeve Klingensmith (Chapel Hill, N.C.) set a personal-best time of 26.85 in the 200m. Klingensmith finished 27th out of 67 competitors. Junior Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas) also ran a personal-best with a time of 27.48.

Klingensmith claimed a point for the Blue in the Long Jump. Klingensmith came in eighth with a distance of 4.93m.

In the 400m Hurdles, junior Aoife Fitzgerald (Paxton, Mass.) claimed 26th with a time of 1:15.38.

The Emory Spring Break Classic continues tomorrow. Competition begins at 10:00 AM.
