Blue Track & Field Claims Ninth at Emory Spring Break Classic; Peng Wins 1500m

ATLANTA, Ga. – Backed by a 1500m win from sophomore Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.), Wellesley College track & field finished ninth out of 26 teams at the Emory Spring Break Classic on Saturday. 

Peng and classmate Megan Cunningham (Portland, Maine) went 1-3 in Saturday's open invite section of the 1500m event. Peng ran a winning time of 5:08.01. Cunningham was right behind with a time of 5:12.84.

Hope College scored 117.5 points to win the team competition. West Georgia (104.5) and host Emory (103) rounded out the top three.

Sophomores Simone Beauchamp (Aurora, Colo.) and Elise Lanahan (Greenville, S.C.) finished third and fifth in the 3000m race. Beauchamp ran a time of 11:03.37. Lanahan had a time of 11:52.36.

In the Javelin Throw, junior Emily Doyle (Mobile, Ala.) finished eighth with a distance of 33.24m to earn a pair of points for Wellesley.

Wellesley's 4x100m Relay team of sophomore Sara Maeve Klingensmith (Chapel Hill, N.C.), junior Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas), senior Taylor Quaye (Los Angeles, Calif.) and junior Ria Goveas (Bangalore, India) took eighth with a time of 50.47.

Junior Erin Dickinson (Papillion, Neb.) took 10th with a distance of 10.18m in the Triple Jump.

Wellesley returns to competition at the Coast Guard Invitational on Saturday, April 6.
