Blue Track & Field's Doyle Breaks Javelin Throw Record at Coast Guard Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior Emily Doyle set a program record and won the Javelin Throw event for Wellesley College track & field at the Coast Guard Invitational on Saturday.

Doyle's distance of 36.32m broke her own previous record by over two meters. Doyle led a field of 30 throwers and her distance ranks within the top-60 in Division III. Doyle also earned eighth in the Discus Throw with a distance of 32.88m.

Wellesley's 4x100m Relay team of junior Ria Goveas (Bangalore, India), seniors Eriko Darcy (Chicago, Ill.) and Taylor Quaye (Los Angeles, Calif.), and junior Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas) ran a blistering time of 50.48 to win the seven-team race.

Sophomore Charlie Barron (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Junior Aoife Fitzgerald (Paxton, Mass.) went 2-4 in the 400m race. Barron was the runner-up with a time of 1:03.18. Fitzgerald claimed fourth with a time of 1:04.57.

Junior Erin Dickinson (Papillion, Neb.) put up a distance of 10.07m in the Triple Jump event to finish sixth.

Sophomore Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) ran a time of 2:28.95 to earn seventh out of 38 competitors in the 800m event.

In the 100m dash, junior Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas) placed eighth with a personal-best time of 12.86.

Sophomore Kenya Francis (Atlanta, Ga.) took ninth in the Shot Put with a season-best distance of 10.31m.

Next up, the Blue head to Connecticut College for the Silfen Invitational on Friday, April 12.
