Wellesley Track & Field Earns Tri-Meet Victory over Mount Holyoke and Smith

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College track & field won nine events to earn 82 points and defeat Mount Holyoke College and Smith College in a tri-meet at on Saturday at the MHC Turf and Track Complex. Host Mount Holyoke finished second with 54 total points. Smith placed third with 49 points.

Junior Emily Doyle (Mobile, Ala.) won the Javelin, Discus, and Shot Put for the Blue. Doyle took the Javelin with a distance of 36.16m and the Discus with a distance of 33.60m and made it a trifecta of wins with a distance of 10.18m in the Shot Put.

Senior Caitlin Gordon (North Vancouver, British Columbia) threw for a distance of 23.97m to claim fourth in the Javelin, while sophomore Kenya Francis earned second in Discus with a distance of 31.06m. Sophomore Dova Koretsky (Pepperell, Mass.) earned second in the Shot Put with a personal-best distance of 9.65m.

Doyle later claimed second in the Hammer Throw. Her distance of 35.30m was only .01 off of Mount Holyoke's Emily Tetzlaff (Bath, Maine). Francis, Gordon and Koretsky went 4-5-6 in the Hammer Throw. Francis placed fourth by throwing 30.33m. Gordon had a distance of 28.15m to take fifth place. Koretsky set a personal-best with 27.80m to capture sixth.

Sophomore Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) took the top spot in the High Jump with a height of 1.42m. Whinney also earned gold in the 1500m with a personal-best time of 4:38.21. Whinney was third in the 3000m with a personal-best time of 10:26.33. Classmate Simone Beauchamp (Aurora, Colo.) set a personal-best with a time of 11:37.69 in the 3000m Steeplechase.

The Blue's 4x100m Relay team of seniors Ria Goveas (Bangalore, India), Eriko Darcy (Chicago, Ill.) and Taylor Quaye (Los Angeles, Calif.), and junior Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas) won with a season-best time of 50.18. Junior Erin Dickinson (Papillion, Neb.) and Goveas finished second and third in the Long Jump. Dickinson recorded a distance of 5.01m. Goveas was right behind with a distance of 4.89m. Dickinson was also the runner-up in the Triple Jump, registering a distance of 10.01m.

Junior Aoife Fitzgerald (Paxton, Mass.) topped the 100m Hurdles competition with a time of 17.93m. Fitzgerald made it two wins by taking the 400m Hurdles with a leading time of 1:11.06.

Sophomore Charlie Barron (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Darcy finished 2-3 in the 400m. Barron had a season-best time of 1:01.07. Darcy set a PR with a time of 1:02.28. Barron, Fitzgerald, sophomore Sara Maeve Klingensmith (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and Whinney narrowly came in second in the 4x400m Relay. The squad's time of 4:13.47 was only .28 seconds off of Smith.

Ogah took third in the 100m with a time of 13.16 and earned two points for the Blue. Quaye later placed third in the 200m with a time of 27.70.

Sophomore Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) broke her personal-best with a time of 2:24.90 in the 800m.

Up next, the Blue compete at the NEWMAC Championships at Springfield College on Friday-Saturday, April 26-27.
