Wellesley's Hoang, Reece Sweep NEWMAC Volleyball Weekly Awards

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College volleyball seniors Samantha Hoang (Elk Grove, Calif.) and Yasmine Reece (New Rochelle, N.Y.) have been named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Volleyball Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 14, 2018.

Hoang was named the conference's Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second time in her career. Reece was named co-Offensive Athlete of the Week and has now earned NEWMAC Weekly honors eight times in her Wellesley career.

Hoang averaged 5.70 digs/set over 10 sets in a 3-0 week for the Blue. Hoang collected a career-high 30 in a 3-1 NEWMAC win over Coast Guard on Tuesday night. She then totaled 12 digs vs. Geneseo and 15 vs. Plymouth St., as the Blue celebrated Senior Day with a sweep of a non-conference tri-match on Saturday. Hoang's outstanding week helped her move up to third in the NEWMAC at 4.28 digs/set. 

NEWMAC Volleyball Co-Offensive Athlete of the Week Yasmine Reece, Wellesley (Sr., MH – New Rochelle, N.Y.)

Reece averaged 4.60 kills/set in a 3-0 week for the Blue. In all, Reece tallied 46 kills and made just five errors, finishing the week with a .471 attack percentage. Reece had 20 kills in a 3-1 NEWMAC win over Coast Guard and added 26 total over a two-match sweep of Geneseo and Plymouth St. on Saturday, including 18 kills on 25 attempts vs. Plymouth St.

Hoang, Reece and the Blue (15-3 overall, 6-2 NEWMAC) will travel to MIT at 7:00 PM Tuesday for a key NEWMAC match with the nationally-ranked Engineers.
